Papers
Paper-making. Play with lots of grades, sizes, of paper to maximize range of handling, tactile expression, cultural / symbolic resonance, acoustic expression / variation, robustness, reproducibility, etc. etc. Learn how to embed low-profile, soft sensors and transducers.
Imagine embedded circuits that are closed (shorted) by moisture.
How the paper responds vocally to being rolled, touched pressed, folded, layered, rolled, ripped, wet, burned?

Gesture and gesture-tracking
Every sensor cuts away most of the phenomenon, so focus first on the gestural possibilities and symbolic resonances, before diving too deep into the sensor hardware and feature extraction techniques. "To the phenomena themselves."
Sound
Feature extraction, gesture interpretation, synthesis. At first, use simple techniques that allow maximum freedom in using sampled sound without processing, then bring in (1) custom sonic textures and (2) live processing behaviours tuned to the irreality of animate paper.
Calligraphy and printing
Emphasize the breath and continuity of calligraphy over the discrete representations. How can we use the moisture of ink or water, and the drying out of paper?
