Jan - Mar 2014
Jan 1 - Mar 15
√ Montreal Prototype : Make a testing platform in TML Montreal. Assemble papers, sonified worktable, air pick-ups, preliminary software modules to map from acoustic input to modulated playback of sound. Navid & Oana.
Goal: Navid to set up Prototype 0 in TML Montreal so that Oana can do variations of materials and gestures and try her own palette of sounds edited herself.
• Xin Wei (Phoenix) & Oana (Montreal): Discuss felt meaning (Gendlin, Merleau-Ponty) and symbolic/historical affordances.
Feb 1 - Mar 15
Xin Wei & Navid in Phoenix. Exploring gesture tracking strategies, feature extraction from acoustic sensors, tuned to the sorts of gestural activities discovered in trying out Montreal Prototype.
• Build Phoenix Prototype for parallel work with Oana in Montreal.
Feb 15 - Mar 8
• Improvisational Environments Residency at Synthesis / AME / ASU Phoenix. A major workshop with TML researchers from Montreal, UC Berkeley CNMAT, USC movement research)
Feb 19-22
√ SXW to Copenhagen to present Q Is for Quickening Project to CIID. Meet CIID faculty, students, candidate intern Chris.
Feb 23 - March
• Navid builds Phoenix Prototype based on design from Montreal Prototype
• Parallel work with SXW & Navid in Phoenix, Oana in Montreal
• Pavla arranges for training for Chris in the art of making paper. (Kolding Design?) Need to go to a studio which is equipped with shredding machines, water vats, drying tables, etc. Need supervision by experienced paper artist for safety and skill.
March 31
• Chris moves to Copenhagen (till Aug 31)
• CIID (Alie + Pavla) fix housing and separate teaching agreement for Workshop Apr 28 - May 2. (Xin Wei + Navid as well as Chris?)

Apr - May 2014
April
• Pavla assist Xin Wei to find summer housing and childcare for family: June 1 through Aug 31.
• Build Copenhagen Prototype (for main project) and Workshop Kit (for students) based on experiences from Montreal and Phoenix. Copenhagen Prototype goal: integrate research results on symbolic and cultural and phenomenological affordances, papers, physical sensors, sound synthesis code (Max.MSP) into a package on which we can widely & freely vary gestures, papers (drawings and writings), mappings, sounds.
April 1-14
• Chris: Training on paper-making, embedding custom physical sensors (piezo-resistive films, acoustic microphones) into custom papers. Explore inks, liquids and embossing techniques. This April version should use ordinary speakers (or maybe transducers attached to solid surfaces somewhere in the room?) but not embedded into the paper (wait till after workshop)
• Explore morphological gestures (folding, rolling, ripping, shredding), oxidation, flame and other transmuations of paper. Carry on physical experiments that integrate the techniques and insights from Xin Wei, Oana, Navid into a common physical platform.
April 14 - 27
• Chris makes a Kit for student use from the first Copenhagen Prototype.
April 28 - May 2: Workshop
• Xin Wei & Chris (+ Navid?) present project and Kit to students in CIID. Suggests fan-out for a family of related "animated paper" projects with distinct intents. Examples: how to incorporate moving image with paper -- ranging from printing film to archival paper form, to using computer vision techniques with micro-print paper to track its deformations in space-time.
MAY
• Create Copenhagen Platform that can sustain widely varying gestural activity / manipulation, staging, marks, sound designs for the summer residency to come. with techniques from Navid (or other TML researchers)
• Integrate sound synthesis using embedded transducers
• Refine workflow, robustness, performance, versatility, readiness for creative content work based on Q Is for Quickening.

Jun - Aug 2014
• Xin Wei in residence.
Goal: Produce Artist's Proof of animate paper with content from SXW: "Q Is for Quicken" a gesturally manipulable object+sound installation.
• Working continuously with the Copenhagen Platform as integrated by Chris, team explores widely and deeply as possible experiential, symbolic, expressive range of materializations of Q Is for Quickening.
( In June, Xin Wei will to take trips to obligations in Montreal, Paris, Crete, Phoenix. )
July - Aug 15
• Oana work session with Xin Wei (and Navid ?). Short trip(s).
• Xin Wei to Paris, London
Aug 15 - 30
• Copenhagen Exhibition / Conversation: Present results and Artist's Proof of "Q Is for Quickening" in a public venue. Invite network from Copenhagen and local countries.
• Produce limited edition / reference copies for CIID, Synthesis, and team members.
• Prepare documentation in multiple formats: web, text (print), sonic, video, workshop, kits.
